About Our Founder

Hey hey, hello!

I'm Alexis, also known as the Spoonie Founder.

My journey with disability began unexpectedly when I fainted at 18. Little did I know, it would take 15 years to finally get a diagnosis. When that diagnosis came, I naively thought, “Whew, I’m done now!”—which, spoiler alert, was laughable. By 2023 I began experiencing severe pain in my knees and hips and walking unassisted became nearly impossible. Early in 2024, I could only manage short distances before my purple rollator (a lifesaver, gifted by my amazing friend Jacque) became my new sidekick. When I introduced the possibility of getting a wheelchair to my doctor, she was fully on board with the idea doctor. It was time to transition to a custom wheelchair for safety reasons.

This journey has been challenging, to say the least, but I’m incredibly lucky to have a circle of supportive friends, family, and a medical team that actually believes me (which any chronically ill person will tell you is pure magic!). During this time, I had a light bulb realization: i had never seen a get well card that featured a disabled person. And thus, Beacon Prints was born.

Beacon Prints isn’t just a brand—it’s a beacon of hope and representation for the disabled community. My mission is to shine a light on inclusivity while helping able-bodied individuals understand that accessibility benefits everyone.

Thank you for being here and supporting this journey. It means the world to me, and I hope we’ll see each other around soon!
